Description

The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.

The Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women is seeking candidates for an Offender Information Specialist I. This position performs sentencing calculations to determine parole eligibility and release of inmates as well as maintains offender inmate records within the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Process open records requests.
  • Work in systems such as the Kentucky Offender Management System (KOMS), Court-Net, E-Warrants and the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry System (SOR).
  • Review inmate records for transfers.
  • Schedule and maintain trips and logs.
  • Work directly with the Office of the Courts and Court Officials as well as Local and State Police.
  • Complete sentence calculations.
  • Compile various reports.
  • Respond to inquiries.

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

Two years of experience in management, administration, legal, paralegal, or offender records.

EXPERIENCE:

NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for

EDUCATION:

Administrative, management, legal, paralegal, law enforcement, or offender records experience will substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Work is typically performed in an office setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
