Position Overview / Duties

The Louisville District is recruiting for a Natural Resource Specialist (Park Ranger) GS Series 0401 to serve as a Park Ranger at Rough River Lake in Falls of Rough, KY.

Management may select at the GS‑05, GS‑07, or GS‑09 level. Full performance level of this position is GS‑09.

  • Responsible for planning and implementation of a variety of program areas involving administration, resource management, and visitor services, and performs a variety of tasks including assisting in contract administration, implementing Corps Plans, short- and long-term fiscal planning, and participating in flood control activities.
  • Participates in the development of various planning documents, including Master Plans and Operational Management Plans (OMP), for management of the project's man-made and natural resources.
  • Assists with the coordination of planning and execution of activities related to numerous programs, to include forestry, wetlands, shoreline management, boundary surveillance, water quality, and archaeological sites.
  • Reviews plans proposed by others on government land and provides recommendations for modifications.
  • Patrols and inspects project sites, recreation areas, and public use facilities by vehicle, boat, or foot, for safe and usable conditions in accordance with Title 36 Code of Federal Regulation.
  • Develops and promotes Water Safety Programs, oversees project interpretive program, and the disaster response activities.
  • Works closely with Federal, State, and local agencies and organizations in cooperative efforts.
Other Conditions and Requirements
  • This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019‑R "Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified as Critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program".
  • This position requires a pre‑employment physical exam due to the physical requirement of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to lift and carry materials weighing 25 pounds or more.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid State motor vehicle license and obtain/maintain Corps of Engineers boat operator's license within 1 year of employment.
  • Must work weekends and holidays when needed.
