The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior. The Postal Technician I is a vital part of this mission through performing complex duties in the mailroom.

• Searching and processing incoming and outgoing mail for staff and inmates
• Assists staff and inmates with proper mailing and shipping procedures
• Maintains logs
• Maintains and operates postal equipment
• Maintains and orders mailroom supplies

• EDUCATION: High school graduate.

Incumbents working in this job title requires daily travel to pick up and deliver mail.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
