What will I do in this position if hired?

In this Local Hire (Environmental Floodplain Specialist) position, you will provide technical assistance to facilitate floodplain management in support of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and hazard mitigation strategy objectives and requirements.

• Ensure compliance with floodplain management regulations, ordinances, executive orders, policies, and guidance to meet the goals of the hazard mitigation strategy and FEMA mission.
• Gather, review, and organize disaster‑related information and field data.
• Identify goals, objectives, actions, and tasks to accomplish state and local hazard mitigation priorities.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners, local and state officials, city/county/parish councils, building officials, and floodplain managers.
• Complete floodplain determinations for proposed temporary housing sites and public assistance project sites.

To qualify for this Local Hire (Environmental Floodplain Specialist) position, you must possess experience in:

• Providing technical guidance to stakeholders concerning mitigation or floodplain management.
• Determining compliance with rules and regulations related to mitigation or floodplain management.
• Preparing written correspondence such as reports, instructions, or briefings.

There is no educational substitution for this position. Candidates must meet the qualifications listed in the Key Requirements section.
