Description

Under general supervision of the Community Development Director, performs routine and complex administrative and technical planning work associated with current and long-range planning, zoning, subdivisions, land use developments and implementation of municipal codes and policies as well as the state statute in relation to planning. The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment, initiative, professional skill and knowledge in the day-to-day implementation of the City’s general plan, zoning and subdivision codes to affect the orderly regulation and control of the City’s development and growth.

This classification is in an office environment requiring mostly sedentary activities for the majority of the workday, however, some projects may require outdoor activities on uneven terrain. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and lift up to 10 pounds. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift and move up to 50 pounds.

Must have hearing and speaking ability sufficient to clearly and concisely communicate in person and over the telephone. Must have sufficient close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus to perform the duties of the position. Must be capable of operating motor vehicles safely for required travel.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in urban planning, land use planning, architecture, landscape architecture or a closely related field; and one (1) year of professional planning experience, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed. Possess, or have the ability to obtain upon employment, a valid Arizona driver’s license.
