Description

The Administrative Office of the Courts is the operational arm of the Judicial Branch. The court system employs nearly 3,300 personnel who support 406 elected justices, judges, and circuit court clerks. The Office of Statewide Programs, Department of Pretrial Services has an opening for a Pretrial Services Specialist-Shift. This position is in Region 1, Marshall County.

Examples Of Duties Or Responsibilities Of This Classification
  • Conduct initial interview of defendant within 24 hours of jail booking, to include receiving arresting documents, performing defendant interviews, and contacting judges for bond information.
  • Review defendant’s case history and risk assessment scores to determine the defendant’s eligibility for
  • Pretrial Administrative Release and to make recommendations to trial courts for pretrial release with supervision and diversion.
  • Supervise defendants on Monitored Release through check-in’s and being present for drug testing.
  • Monitor adherence to court-ordered programs and community provider requirements.
  • Submit detailed written reports to the appropriate entities.
  • Complete quality assurance reports to maintain state statistics for Pretrial defendants. To include investigating issues and working with different stakeholders to obtain necessary information and data.
  • Facilitate relationships with community stakeholders:
    Establish and/or maintain relationships with treatment
  • centers, testing agencies and community resources necessary for supervision programs.
  • Attend court and communicate with judges during pretrial misdemeanor diversion and deferred prosecution’s
  • Prepare affidavits of indigency for the courts.
  • Enter data into the Pretrial Release Management (PRIM) System.
  • Travel to counties regularly to conduct and attend meetings, trainings, summits and workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION:

Associates Degree

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR

SKILLS:

At least two (2) years’ experience working with or within criminal justice, judicial and/or legal systems

SUBSTITUTE EDUCATION for

EXPERIENCE:

Additional relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for- year basis.

SUBSTITUTE EXPERIENCE for

EDUCATION:

High school diploma and 3 years job related experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
Must be able to pass FBI clearance and obtain National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification within the first 60 days of employment, and every year thereafter. Must be able to work in the jail or detention center of the county or counties in which assigned. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Occasionally required to work remotely to intake and meet with individuals in detention centers and/or jails. Occasionally required to work weekends, holidays and alternate shifts to attend court and/or meet with incarcerated and pretrial release individuals. Occasionally required to drive to/from locations statewide. Occasionally exposed to loud noises when meeting with inmates in a jail.

Occasionally requires exposure to defendants who may become violent or threatening. Occasionally required to lift up to 10 pounds to move file, records, and copy paper boxes. Due to the nature of the job duties and responsibilities, this position is not authorized for virtual work.
