** JOB SUMMARY
** The Professional Staff – Legislative supports the City Council President's legislative and policy agenda through research, policy analysis, bill drafting, legislative coordination, and stakeholder engagement. The position works closely with Council staff, City agencies, the Mayor’s Office of Government Relations, and community partners to advance legislative priorities, oversee special initiatives, and ensure efficient City Council operations.
** ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*** Conduct legislative research and policy analysis.
* Draft and advance legislative proposals.
* Monitor legislation as it proceeds through the City Council.
* Prepare legislative briefings and reports.
* Coordinate with Council staff, agencies, and external stakeholders.
* Support legislative and oversight hearings.
* Lead special projects, including coalition building.
* Coordinate the Council President’s nominations to relevant Boards and Commission.
* Prepare agendas and meeting materials for City Council meetings.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
***
* Education:

** A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
** AND
* **
* Experience:

** At least five (5) years of experience in legislative affairs, public policy, government relations, public administration, community organizing, strategic research, teaching, social work, or related fields.
** OR
* *** Equivalency Notes:
** Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
** KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
*** Previous experience in a fast-paced role, preferably within government, politics, organized labor, public-serving non-profit organizations, education, or another form of public service.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise communications.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
