POSITION SUMMARY:

The Government Relations Associate manages government relations activities across a multi-state region in support of Dominium’s mission to build and preserve affordable workforce and senior housing. This position monitors and analyzes public policy, communicates potential business impacts and risks, advocates for housing-related initiatives, and builds relationships with key stakeholders. The Government Relations Associate also partners with internal teams to support regional development projects, policy objectives, and community outreach efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages government relations activities across an assigned multi-state region.
  • Monitors federal, state, and local legislative, regulatory, and administrative actions that may affect Dominium’s business activities or development pipeline.
  • Researches and analyzes public policy initiatives and communicates relevant developments, potential impacts, and business risks to internal stakeholders.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with elected officials, appointed officials, government agencies, industry organizations, community leaders, and other key stakeholders.
  • Advocates for public policies and initiatives that support Dominium’s business objectives and the affordable housing industry.
  • Builds coalitions and secures appropriate stakeholder support for company initiatives, policy priorities, and development projects.
  • Coordinates community outreach and government engagement efforts supporting regional development projects.
  • Partners cross-functionally with Development, Property Management, Legal, and other internal teams to advance policy goals and business initiatives.
  • Prepares clear and timely summaries, updates, talking points, and other communications regarding complex legislative and public policy matters.
  • Identifies emerging policy issues and develops creative, practical strategies to address potential challenges or opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Training and Experience.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in government, political science, legal studies, public policy, or a related field is required. Master’s degree or other relevant postgraduate degree is preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in policy analysis, government relations, public affairs, legislative affairs, or a related field
  • Direct experience analyzing and/or influencing public policy is required.
  • Experience with lobbying, coalition building, advocacy campaigns, or related work is preferred. Experience with in the housing or affordable housing industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel, and experience navigating online government and state agency databases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to quickly summarize and communicate complex information in clear, accessible language.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate public policy and determine its potential impact on company activities.
  • Creative and resourceful approach to identifying challenges and developing effective strategies and solutions.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills, including experience developing coalitions in support of organizational priorities.
