Skilled Worker/Shade Tree Apprentice - East Brunswick Township.Is accepting applications for a regular full-time position of Skilled Worker/Shade Tree Apprentice in the Department of Parks & Recreation. A successful candidate will perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of Township trees, which may include maintaining and/or removing public shade trees within the Township’s public parks, property, or right of way. Main responsibilities include:
- Operating light, medium and heavy-duty trucks equipped with manual, automatic and dual range transmissions.
- Operating a variety of machinery including but not limited to wood chippers, chainsaws, stump grinders, and snow blowers.
- Cleaning, maintaining, and performing repairs on equipment and machinery.
- Planting, maintaining and removing trees on township property.
- Clearing view obstructions in public right-of-way.
- Performing snow removal for public walkways, parking lots and streets.
- Organizing work zones, trucks and equipment.
- Performing cleanup of job sites.
May frequently work in adverse weather conditions and within public streets, right of way and amongst vehicular traffic. Frequently works in adverse weather conditions and in emergencies on a 24-hour call. Must have:
- Ability to operate loaders when needed.
- Ability to plant and maintain trees.
- Ability to learn tree removal techniques, including lowering/rigging and working within a safety zone for large tree removals.
- Ability to work for extended periods of time with other Departments based on necessity, including but not limited to the Department of Public Works, Snow Removal Operations, and Leaf Program.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Licensing &
Certifications:
Valid N.J. driver’s license and requires valid NJ Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class “A” endorsement a plus.
