The Town of Lyons is seeking a collaborative, service-oriented Neighborhood Services Coordinator to help maintain safe, resilient, and welcoming neighborhoods. This position combines code compliance, community education and outreach, neighborhood engagement, and implementation of community resilience initiatives, including wildfire mitigation programs.
Duties and Responsibilities- Works with Town staff, neighborhood residents, community partners, homeowners’ associations, and other groups to identify and resolve neighborhood issues, help empower residents to enhance their quality of life, and assist in building the Town’s organizational capacity to work with neighbors for town-wide initiatives.
- Communicates with neighborhood groups, neighborhood resident leaders, town employees, and community members.
- Provides clear, respectful education to residents, businesses, property owners, and contractors regarding Town codes and procedures.
- Connects residents with available Town, county, nonprofit, and state resources.
- Assists with the coordination of training activities and neighborhood capacity building for advocacy, engagement, and volunteer efforts.
- Coordinates or assists with the coordination of wildfire mitigation, defensible-space education, property assessments, community cleanup programs, grant-funded projects, and other resilience initiatives.
- Responds to requests, questions, and complaints related to property maintenance, nuisances, land use, building activity, signs, weeds, trash, outdoor storage, wildfire mitigation, and other applicable Town regulations in a timely and professional manner.
- Meets with, advises, educates, and guides property owners, business owners, tenants, HOAs, and other parties and otherwise provides highly accurate and reliable information regarding the Town’s codes and appropriate ways and means to resolve violations and to maintain properties to remain or become in compliance.
- Performs case management of all assigned code enforcement cases to include all correspondence, photo documents, citations, violations, legal notices and affidavits.
- Seeks cooperative and voluntary resolution of code concerns before initiating formal enforcement, when appropriate.
- Prepares accurate and complete reports and builds activity files suitable for presentation in judicial and/or quasi-judicial proceedings and/or hearings.
- Collaborates with town staff regarding educational materials and other communication efforts related to neighborhood engagement that may include doorknockers, social media, and other opportunities that encourage public engagement.
- Consistently follows proper safety protocols during fieldwork and inspections, proactively identifies potential hazards, and takes appropriate action to prevent accidents
- Operates a Town vehicle, driving under normal and potentially hazardous conditions while adhering to all safety and traffic regulations
