VI Lottery Enforcement Officer (Classified), STT and STX

Position: Enforcement Officer (Classified)
Location: St. Croix and St. Thomas
Status: Full-Time

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be POST Certified (Peace Officer Standards and Training)
  • High school diploma or equivalent (add higher requirement if applicable)
  • Ability to pass background investigation

Work involves responsibility for the performance of a variety of assigned task in the maintenance of order and the protection of life and property on Virgin Islands Lottery Property and facilities. Employees in this classification are required to monitor and enforce maintenance of gaming laws, rules and/or regulations and provide security during Powerball/Mega Million nightly drawings in accordance with established territorial and applicable Federal Statues and all other policies and procedures of the Virgin Islands Lottery.

The nature of work requires that employees in this classification exercise judgment in the enforcement of law and order. Pick up daily cash and deposit end of day cash. Demonstrate a courteous, firm and impartial demeanor when dealing with the Lottery Dealers and playing public.

Examples of Work

Responds to call for assistance or service on Virgin Islands Lottery property, investigate and determine cause and effect provide assistance; search places, persons and things, protects life and property; preserves evidence and personal property.

Gathers information through interview, interrogation, and personal observation techniques, collects and preserves evidence.

Within mandates of applicable law arrests if required/or detains suspects restrain and/or subdues persons when necessary. Effects physical arrest and searching of people; appropriate use of force in compliance of governing statue and agency policy.

Applies appropriate safety precautions and procedures in performance of duties. Applies such requirement in potentially dangerous and/or hazardous situations. Maintains awareness of own location and location of other officers.

Provides assistance and information; explains procedures, policy, laws, reviews complaints. Advises violators, mediates disputes, comfort victims and control crowds.

Provides oral and written reports to supervisors, and appropriate agency heads. Issues citations and summons, takes statements from victims and/or witnesses, completes general paper work generated by assignment provide weekly and monthly reports.

$100,000 went to Office of Veterans Affairs in 2016.

Demonstrates working knowledge of agency gaming policy, regulation and procedure (i.e.: ability to verbalize and apply them appropriately).

Through implementation of working knowledge of procedures and techniques gained in training, education and experience; performs patrol of agency property and facilities, monitors and, responds to calls for assistance or service on V.I Lottery property, facilities, contractors and dealers.

Requirements
  • Peace Officer Status
  • When required and in cases of emergency; provide assistance to V.I.P.D. and other Government Agencies.
  • Applicant must be U.S. or Naturalized Citizen
  • Not less than 21 years
  • Must be POST Certified
  • Have High School Diploma or GED equivalency and transcript
  • Be in excellent physical and mental condition as determined by a certified Physician
  • Have no criminal record
  • Must be drug free

    Must pass psychological assessment
  • Have a valid Virgin Islands Driver’s License
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays
  • This is an Exempt position therefore no overtime is accrued, compensatory time only
