Position: Manager of Government Relations

The Manager of Government Relations supports the Executive Director in advancing CFX's legislative, governmental, and intergovernmental objectives, while ensuring proactive engagement on transportation initiatives, public policy matters, capital projects, and regional partnerships. The position serves as CFX's primary liaison with federal, state, regional, and local government partners and is responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with elected officials, government agencies, transportation organizations, community leaders, and external stakeholders that influence the Agency's mission and priorities.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Provide strategic counsel to the Executive Director regarding legislative updates, stakeholder concerns, emerging issues, and government relations opportunities.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with elected officials, government agencies, regional transportation partners, chambers of commerce, and community organizations.
- Serve as a key point of contact for local, state, and federal stakeholders regarding CFX projects, initiatives, and priorities.
- Project manage, oversee and direct advocacy partners/contracts.
- Coordinate meetings, talking points, briefings, presentations, and outreach efforts.
- Represent CFX at governmental, transportation, civic, and industry meetings and events.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory activities that may impact CFX operations, finances, programs, and projects.
- Prepare summaries and recommendations for executive leadership.
- Coordinate responses to legislative inquiries and information requests.
- Support development and implementation of CFX's annual legislative agenda.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen partnerships and advance CFX initiatives through proactive stakeholder engagement.
- Plan and execute outreach strategies related to transportation projects, tolling initiatives, and regional mobility efforts.
- Coordinate with project teams to understand project milestones, construction impacts, and community concerns.
- Help identify and resolve stakeholder issues related to projects and operational initiatives.
- Thorough understanding of government affairs, public policy, legislative processes, and intergovernmental relations.
- Exceptional relationship-building and networking abilities.
- Excellent written, verbal, and public presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated judgment, diplomacy, and professionalism when interacting with the public, elected officials and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
- Bachelor's degree in public administration, Political Science, Communications, Public Affairs, Government, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Seven to ten (7-10) years of progressively responsible experience in government affairs, legislative affairs, public administration, public policy, external affairs, or a related field.
- Experience working directly with elected officials, governmental agencies, boards, commissions, or public-sector organizations.
- Transportation or infrastructure-related experience preferred.
- Heavy computer work and ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Attendance at evening meetings, public events, and occasional weekend functions may be required.
- Some travel, required.
- Valid Driver's license, required.
