** Description of Work
** This position reports to a Correctional Housing Unit Manager II at a multi-custody female correctional facility and is responsible for first line supervision of Correctional Officer II's. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Assigning lower level custody staff to a particular area or post as well as evaluating and overseeing officer activities and performance and ensuring that the custody, security, and welfare of offenders is maintained.
2. Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
3. Managing a facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC).
4. Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed.
5. Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders.
6. Communicating effectively instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations.
7. Responding to emergency situations such as, distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders.
8. Conducting and/or supervising searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband.
9. Investigating and taking action when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints.
10. Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff.
