American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service is seeking one Records Management Fellow to assist STLPG (State, Tribal, and Local Plans & Grants) division staff with cultural resource programs through grants to states, tribes, territories, and other eligible recipients that support the preservation of America's historic places and history.

Remote or onsite in Washington, D.C.
The State, Tribal, and Local Plans & Grants Division (STLPG), located in Washington D.C., provides preservation assistance through a number of Historic Preservation Fund grant programs that support the preservation of America's historic places and diverse history. This position is onsite based out of D.C. with some opportunities for telework. The position will allow for up to 60% telework but the fellow must be available to be onsite for the necessary projects.

Position OverviewState, Tribal, Local, Plans & Grants Division (STLPG) is a national program at National Park Service (NPS) headquarters office that supports cultural resource programs through grants to states, tribes, territories, and other eligible recipients. The source of funding for the grants is Congressional appropriations from the Historic Preservation Fund. The fellow will work directly with NPS staff in parks and/or programs around Washington, DC to assist in the management of grant projects, primarily of archival or museum collections.
TheACE Fellow:
- Reviews applications for grant programs, primarily of the collections or history project types and makes recommendations for funding for awarding officer
- Drafts the award certificate package for applications recommended for funding by grant programs
- Make recommendations on scope and budget review of selected applications and drafts grant agreements for awarding officer
- Reviews grant deliverables, primarily of the collections or history project types, and makes recommendations on approval to awarding officer
- Corresponds with grantees as directed by the awarding officer to connect grantees with answers to queries or published guidance
- Appraises and arranges Federal records, assists with transferring records to Federal Records Centers and/or the National Archives
- Coordinates and carries out recommendations for digitization of records
- Plans, organizes, and promotes records maintenance and disposition within the division
- Learn grants management practices and processes for managing federal cultural resource grants
- Acquire skills in reviewing applications and grant deliverables
- Develop communication skills with grant professionals, internal and external
- Participate in grant manager meetings
- Learn records management and archival best practices for managing cultural resource collections and Federal records
- Acquire skills in appraising, arranging, and inventorying collections of Federal records
- Apply knowledge of records management disposition schedules and procedures when transferring records to Federal Records Centers and/or the National Archives
- Grants management and financial assistance statutes, regulations, policies, and practices of the federal government and the National Park Service.
- Archival and collections management specific practices for the National Park Service program operations of the Cultural Resources Directorate, STLPG division.
- Site tours of grant projects within the Washington, DC area, within travel budget allowance, or where other opportunities allow.
- Leadership and project management skill development
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
