OPS ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST I -

* This is a part-time Other Personnel Service (OPS) Environmental Specialist I position working 25 to 35 hours per week with the Department of Health in Lee County.*

This is a part-time Other Personnel Service (OPS) Environmental Specialist I position working 28 to 35 hours per week, performing duties under the direction of an Environmental Manager with the Environmental Public Health Section of the Florida Department of Health in Lee County.

The primary focus areas for the incumbent will start with training to perform quality assurance inspections and enforcement in the following areas:

• Public Swimming Pools
• Biomedical Waste
• Sanitary Complaints Investigation
• Annual assessments of Aerobic Treatment Units
• Verification of System Abandonments
• Limited Use Drinking Water Systems

Additional training and experience will follow, in the programs listed below, as priorities allow:

• Body Art/Body Piercing & Tattooing
• Tanning
• Public Drinking Water System Sampling
• Non-Community Drinking Water Systems
• Harmful Algal Bloom Monitoring and Tracking

• Knowledge and skill in using field equipment required, including but not limited to operating a laser level, shovel, auger, Munsell Color Charts, drill, and other equipment as deemed necessary to perform environmental health inspections
• Knowledge of terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences
• Knowledge of and basic computer skills
• Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage
• Ability to operate general office equipment
• Ability to follow office procedures, and practices
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments
• Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous, and effective manner
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally, and in writing
• Ability to establish, and maintain effective working relationships
• Ability to understand, interpret, and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies & procedures
• Ability to prioritize individual workload
• Ability to frequently bend, kneel, reach, and sit or stand for long periods of time
• Ability to lift, and carry up to 50 pounds as needed
• Ability to work with occasional loud noises indoors and/or outdoors
• Ability to work outdoors with various temperature changes

• Ability to locate information that is listed alphabetically & numerically

• Incumbent will be assigned a county vehicle and will be responsible for maintaining and operating the vehicle per state and county regulations

• Possess a valid driver’s license and have a vehicle to perform duties.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.
