Job Overview

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Reception/Administrative Assistant to support patient services with a primary focus on efficient front‑door operations and excellent customer service. The role is performed in a daytime shift.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct patient check‑in and check‑out procedures.
  • Schedule appointments via clinical communication or direct request.
  • Provide a positive first impression and utilize customer‑service skills.
  • Ensure point‑of‑service collections and process cashiering tasks.
  • Manage the reception area, maintain an orderly appearance and ensure accountability of each patient check‑in.
  • Proactively communicate appointment updates and changes to patients.
  • Process inbound and outbound telephone calls and respond to patient inquiries.
  • Update and verify insurance information for patient visits.
Technical Capabilities
  • Customer Service (Novice level) – focus on customer needs and responsiveness.
  • Patient Scheduling – coordinate and schedule appointments with various hospital or clinic computer systems.
  • Patient Documentation – receive, record, and verify patient information.
  • Medical Terminology & Documentation – comprehend and record medical terminology in an office or surgical setting.
Position Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Less than one year of relevant work experience.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software.
