Position Details
Part‑time, 2‑3 days per week with rotating shifts (days, afternoons, and midnights). Rotates every other weekend. Mandatory orientation during the first week from 8a.m. to 4:30p.m. Supports Trenton Hospital.
Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Manager of Patient Access, the role is responsible for registering patients accurately and timely by collecting identifying and biographical data, following proper check‑in procedures, and rotating among departments such as emergency, outpatient, and labs.
Responsibilities- Schedule appointments and perform patient registration activities, including pre‑registration of insurance information, medical and demographic data, and entry of diagnostic ICD‑9/ICD‑10 CPT coding to ensure billing accuracy.
- Answer phones and direct calls courteously and efficiently, relaying information to patients and family members in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Prepare patient liability estimates for pre‑service/scheduled services and walk‑ins.
- Prioritize work and maintain effective communication while upholding Corewell Health standards with patients, colleagues, departments, and physician offices.
- Operate standard office equipment such as Microsoft systems, calculators, photocopiers, and fax machine.
- Collaborate with the Pre‑service Center and/or physician’s office to obtain or update authorizations required for imaging protocols or script compliance.
- Transport and escort patients via wheelchair as needed.
- Inform patients of delays in appointment times when requested.
- Call the physician, physician’s office, or Quest Labs when patients arrive without a script or required labs.
- Actively participate in safety initiatives and risk‑mitigating measures, completing all position and unit safety competencies on time.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of ICD‑9 and ICD‑10 CPT coding, medical terminology, and revenue cycle practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Experience with various information systems, spreadsheets, word processing software, and keyboard proficiency.
- Preferred: 1 year of relevant experience in a customer service role or healthcare industry.
- Drug‑free workplace compliance.
- Meeting MMR, Varicella, Tdap, and Influenza vaccine requirements for on‑site or hybrid employees.
