Job Summary
The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow. Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy.
Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers.
- Obtain vital signs and document patient history and medications.
- Reconcile medications and facilitate patient flow.
- Manage EPIC electronic health record and schedule appointments.
- Process medication requests, handle prior authorizations, and coordinate tests and procedures.
- Perform clinical procedures (e.g., EKGs, lab tests, injections, phlebotomy) upon obtaining competency.
- Support providers with effective communication and organization.
- Attend all duties on-site regularly to perform essential functions.
- High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency.
- 1+ year of experience in a medical office, clinic, or similar setting with direct, hands‑on patient care.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program that includes hands‑on patient experience.
- Basic computer skills and experience with an EMR system.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
- BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.
- Completion of a clinical competency assessment and Medical Assistant orientation. Candidates who do not meet standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
- Graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
