Job Summary

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled health professional (MSHP) who works interdependently with other health care professionals to provide quality health care to the patient. The Medical Assistant is educated and trained to perform both administrative and clinical skills in the medical care environment. The Medical Assistant will report to the Clinic Manager.

Job Duties
Administrative
  • Front Desk reception
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments
  • Greet patients, complete registration forms, and give instructions
  • Manage medical records, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Manage financial records, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare various correspondence
  • Coordinate hospital admissions and outside referrals for the physicians
  • Call prescriptions to the pharmacy for the physicians
  • Coordinate surgery, procedure, and medication pre‑authorizations
  • Follow appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct
Clinical
  • Patient preparation, gathering information, and documenting appropriately (vital signs, medical history, chief complaint, exams, and routine screening test prep)
  • Provide patient education concerning office policies, medications, management of diseases, home treatments, and special diets using appropriate medical terminology
  • Assist the Provider with exams and/or minor office surgery
  • Specimen collection and testing
  • Perform basic tests (EKGs, pregnancy tests, or other simple lab tests)
  • Prepare and administer medications with the provider’s authorization
  • Wound care (changing dressing, applying bandages, removing sutures, and other first aid procedures)
  • Use CPR skills when required
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, stock, and sterilizing instruments
  • Dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards
  • Practice OSHA safety standards
  • Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times
Minimum Education Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in a physician's office or medical setting
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred
  • CPR Certification
