Location: Columbia

Assists providers in exams and office procedures. Maintains supply inventory in exam rooms, cleans and sterilizes equipment and draws blood. Assist with front office functions. Serves as primary liaison between patients, staff, and providers. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Utilizes knowledge of patient's age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.

REQUIREMENTS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduate from a recognized training facility for medical assistants is required.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Required to pass certification exam within 6 months of hire.
  • Minimum of one year medical assistant experience in a physician's office setting is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

General Duties

  • Daily demonstrates excellent communication and observation skills.
  • Collects historical medical data and measures vital signs.
  • Prepares patients for examinations/procedures as directed by the provider.
  • Serves daily as a team member in a group of healthcare professionals.
  • Assists providers in patient exams and minor office procedures as required.
  • Assists with front office functions as required as well as referrals, pre-certifications, and prior authorizations.
  • Maintains documentation that is detailed, clearly stated, objective and accurate.
  • Performs simple non-sterile wound care/dressing changes.
  • Point of Care labs, blood draws, EKG's and Spiromety.
  • Communicates with patients any instructions given by provider.
  • Scribing for provider.
  • Suture/staple removal after assessed by provider.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Professionally answers all incoming calls. Accurately records messages and forwards calls appropriately. Completes follow up calls as needed.
  • Accurately obtains and enters patient information into Medical Record database with little or no error.
  • Collects co-payments. Accurately records and processes payments.
  • Assists patients in scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling appointments.
  • Accurately gathers and records pertinent patient information such as vital signs, medical history, medication information, and essential diagnostic reports.
  • Assures the patient rooms and treatment areas are clean and adequately stocked per infection control practices.
  • Performs point of care testing as ordered by the provider, while adhering to OSHA regulations with an emphasis on patient safety and quality control.
  • Prepares patients for examinations/procedures as directed by the provider including position, draping, hair removal, and disinfection treatment sites.
  • Assist with examinations, invasive procedures, and minor medical procedures that are performed by a licensed provider.
  • Maintains documentation that is detailed, clearly stated, objective and accurate.
  • Applies simple non-sterile wound care/dressing changes.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare providers as needed to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participates in staff meetings and in-services.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide clear patient instructions on specific treatment regimens as recommended by a licensed provider.
  • Scribing for a licensed provider.
  • Knowledgeable of front office procedures and willing to assist as required as well referrals, pre-certifications, and prior authorizations.
  • Demonstrates good communication and observation skills.
  • Identifies and reports critical results to licensed provider.
  • Maintains current status in CPR.
  • Utilizes knowledge of patients age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.
  • Correctly performs visual acuity testing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains annual Employee Health Screening requirements as required by policy.
Qualifications Education Required

High School or equivalent or better.
