Overview
Owensboro Health Medical Group – Urgent Care, Muhlenberg requires a Medical Assistant to perform a range of clinical and administrative duties related to patient registration, assessment, and scheduling while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism and a high level of ethical behavior. All tasks focus on patient access and satisfaction, accurate information handling, and patient assistance.
Responsibilities- Schedule and reschedule appointments and diagnostic testing using computerized scheduling programs.
- Collect and record vital signs; perform basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection.
- Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition; document patient care provided.
- Maintain equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning and troubleshooting.
- Accept payments, co‑pays and other fees during registration; reconcile receipts at shift end when required.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies, external agencies, patients, physicians, team members, and referring facilities regarding patient transfers and hospital admissions.
- Answer internal and external calls, take requests for patient information, and disseminate information with accountability to regulatory requirements.
- Maintain examination areas and perform patient registration, check‑out, pre‑certifications, pre‑procedure instructions and appointment confirmations.
- Retrieve records as requested by authorized persons and obtain appropriate release‑of‑information forms.
- File new and returned records according to established systems and policies; identify and document missing records.
- Enter information from multiple sources into computer databases, verify data accuracy by reviewing printouts or reports, and correct errors.
- Locate and prepare records for archival or destruction per policies; initiate retrieval of archived records and follow up on delays.
- Assist with patient assessments and treatments under the supervision of a licensed provider.
- Greet patients upon arrival, provide appropriate information, and prepare them for medical procedures.
- Critical thinking and decisive judgment.
- Ability to work under general supervision in a stressful environment.
- Application of advanced specialized skills and knowledge.
- Work Experience: No experience required.
- Education: High school diploma, GED or higher preferred.
- Licensure / Certification / Registration: A ‑OE credential required within 120 days of obtaining 24 months of experience in the last 36 months under a licensed provider; BLS certification required within 90 days of employment.
- Other: Supports Owensboro Health’s Mission, Vision, Core Commitments, and adheres to all organizational policies and procedures.
Clinical – Office/Clinic:
Frequently standing, walking, and talking; occasionally sitting, lifting (< 25 lbs), pushing/pulling (0–25 lbs), bending, kneeling, and reaching. Common keyboard data entry; very rare running. Vision requirements include normal depth perception and color discrimination. Hazardous drug risk exposure is low.
