Within our Retail locations, we bring this promise to life with heart every day and our Graduate Pharmacy Interns play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy teams to consistently deliver on our brand promise, while developing their own skills in preparation for increasing responsibility.

As a Graduate Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your didactic learning from pharmacy school and pharmacy practice into real‑world practice to become ready for a Pharmacist role. Under the direction of your preceptor and District Leader, you will complete a comprehensive training roadmap within 120 days of graduation designed to further your knowledge of store, district, and regional operations. Through your hands‑on experience, training roadmap, and time spent with leaders in your district you will deepen your understanding of patient safety and error prevention, quality assurance drug utilization review (DUR), pharmacy professional standards such as corresponding responsibility and red flag detection.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacy team to ensure that pharmacy operations run smoothly and that patients’ prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately.
  • Apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and effective communication as part of the pharmacy team.
  • Demonstrate empathy and genuine care, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture where all people feel valued and empowered.
  • Support patient experiences by providing immunizations and other services at the register and over the phone, and by counseling, fielding medical questions, and soliciting information on a patient’s medical history under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Takes telephonic prescriptions from the prescriber, and calls the prescriber to clarify prescriptions or facilitate medication changes, where allowed by state regulation.
  • Maintain the highest level of self‑awareness and provide in‑the‑moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members while sharing best practices.
  • Complete basic inventory activities such as accurately putting away medication deliveries and completing cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting‑bin inventories, etc., as directed by the pharmacy leadership team.
  • Contribute to a high‑performing team, embrace a growth mindset, and be receptive to feedback while actively seeking opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge needed to better assist patients.
  • Remain flexible for both scheduling and business needs, voluntarily traveling to stores in the market to work shifts as needed by the business.
  • Understand and comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles.
  • Comply with CVS policies and procedures to ensure patient safety, compliance with controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and to protect patient privacy and security.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, and voluntarily staffing off‑site clinics) where allowable by law and supported by required training and certification.
  • When permissible, support immunizations by completing additional licensure and training requirements, educating patients about vaccines, monitoring for and responding to adverse reactions, and documenting patient information.
