Director of Personalized Learning &/or Principal
Basic Function:
Obtains parent and ARC permission to evaluate and provide therapy through IEP and Expanded Medicaid Services. Maintains communication with parents, teachers, & other staff as appropriate.
Representative Duties:
Adhere to the Professional Code of Ethics and demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance. Physical ability to perform duties as required. Provides assessments for referred individuals, which may include developmental level, sensory motor, neuromuscular, fine motor, perceptual, self-help, and pre-vocational skills. Assist ARC in developing goals based on the assessment to enhance motor development, sensory processing, improve self-help skills, and to improve classroom function.
Develops treatment plan to implement the educational goals. Provides activity suggestions for the classroom and the home when appropriate. Maintains communication with the parents and school staff to implement IEP goals. Interprets results of the occupational therapy assessment to the parents and appropriate school personnel. Assists staff and parents in techniques for positioning, handling, relaxation, feeding, and self-help skills; assists parents and staff in modifying the environment and providing appropriate activities.
Determines, recommends, and oversees equipment and classroom modifications which will allow the student to function more independently. Continued professional learning as is necessary for job qualifications. Other duties as assigned by Building or District Level Administration
Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Principals and techniques of occupational therapy. Laws and regulations concerning medical records and therapeutic services. Crafts including material and equipment required, analysis of physical requirements, analysis of exercise or other contributions as treatment for special disabilities. Methods, materials, and equipment used to alter existing or fabricate specialized equipment. Oral and written communication skills Principals of training staff Health and Safety regulations Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
Ability To:
Provide occupational therapy to eligible individuals. Determine and evaluate treatment. Communicate effectively with families of disabled individuals. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Maintain records and prepare reports Monitor and evaluate equipment needs. Prepare written evaluations and review medical and therapy reports. Train staff as necessary Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policy and procedures.
Maintain current knowledge of related technological manners and other materials as applies to services for disabled students. Lift heavy objects Operate therapeutic equipment Meet schedules and timelines Observe health and safety regulations.
Physical Demands:
Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision and hearing Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light to heavy weights Assist students with self-care, including diapering, toileting, bathing, dressing and etc.
Evaluation:
Annual development of Professional Growth Plan. Annual evaluation of performance by supervisor.
Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited four-year occupational therapy program and successful completion of internship. Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid Occupational Therapist License by the State of Kentucky.
