Responsibilities
- Provide clinical support to physicians and mid-level providers during patient examinations
- Prepare patients for exams and obtain vital signs, weight, medical history, medication lists, and testing information
- Perform acupuncture needle removal, stimulator application, needle counts, venipuncture, injections, and EKGs
- Document clinical findings and patient responses to interventions
- Provide patient instructions under provider direction
- Register and check patients in and out, collect insurance information and signatures, and obtain pre-certifications and consents
- Schedule procedures, tests, therapy, referrals, appointments, and services; communicate cancellations, changes, and delays
- Verify insurance, obtain authorizations, collect patient payments, enter charges, reconcile services, and follow up on denials
- Coordinate phone lines and InBasket communications, take and relay messages, and transfer calls
- Support office operations, including front desk coverage, answering phones, errands, and transporting patients
- Perform medical records retrieval, filing, scanning, storage, and EMR documentation
- Maintain supplies, clean and disinfect exam rooms, and report equipment malfunctions
- Resolve routine patient problems and complaints and initiate follow-up with appropriate staff
- Maintain compliance with OSHA/CLIA, HIPAA, and applicable laws and regulations
- H.S. Diploma/GED
- Secretarial related courses
- Graduate of accredited medical assisting school
- Successfully completed registration/certification exam
- Medical terminology knowledge
- Computer fluency/literacy
- Verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
- Organization and prioritization skills
- 3 years of related experience in a medical office setting, including customer service/reception, registration, scheduling, filing, telephone etiquette, patient billing, and computer service
- Knowledge of computers and electronic medical records
- Experience with electronic medical records software, such as EPIC
- Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Associate degree or certificate listed as desirable, not required
Demonstrates expertise in clinical support, patient management, and medical office operations, with a strong focus on compliance with healthcare regulations and effective communication. Proficient in electronic medical records and patient billing processes.
