Prevention, Education and Child Passenger Safety Tech Coordinator

The Prevention, Education and Outreach Coordinator/Child Passenger Safety Technician (PEOC/CPST) advances the mission of Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) by supporting injury prevention, child passenger safety, community outreach, and education initiatives focused on preventing traumatic injuries in children. This role combines specialized child passenger safety expertise with community-based prevention programming to improve the safety and well-being of children and families across Colorado.

The PEOC/CPST serves as a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST), completing specialized training to provide child passenger safety services, including fitting and educating families on the proper use of conventional and adaptive car seats. The PEOC/CPST is responsible for ensuring Children's Colorado provides comprehensive child passenger safety services for patients and families across inpatient and outpatient settings. This includes conducting individualized car seat fittings, providing education to patients, families, healthcare providers, and community members, and participating in community-based car seat inspection and fitting events.

The role collaborates with internal and external partners to expand access to child passenger safety resources and promote best practices in injury prevention. Travel to Children's Hospital Colorado locations throughout the Denver metro area and Colorado Springs is required to support these services.

When not providing child passenger safety services, the PEOC/CPST partners with the Senior Prevention, Education and Outreach Coordinator and Trauma Program Manager to coordinate, implement, develop, and evaluate injury prevention, education, and community outreach programs. The Coordinator provides moderate to complex program coordination, develops and delivers educational programming, collaborates with community partners, assists with the design and evaluation of prevention initiatives, and provides training to internal and external stakeholders in support of the Trauma Program's injury prevention strategy.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Identifies and interprets quantitative and qualitative data and information which may be used for assessing the health of a community.
  • Assesses community health status and factors influencing health in a community.
  • Implements CHCO population health strategies; develops options for policies, programs, and services; gathers information for evaluating policies, programs, and services.
  • Coordinates moderate to complex program specific outreach and events and maintains program branding materials including brochures and websites.
    Selects approaches for disseminating public health data and information.
  • Describes the diversity of individuals and populations in a community; addresses the diversity of individuals and populations is addressed in policies, programs, and services that affect the health of a community.
  • Serves as liaison between program, department, CHCO and community partners. Establishes relationships to improve health in the community.
  • Supports development and implementation of population health programs and policies based on community benefit strategic plan, including activities designed to improve health, safety and family education or empowerment.
  • Assists with the development of prevention, education, and outreach programming; and delivers and provides training or outreach to internal and external partners.
  • Provides information for funding proposals; operates programs within budget.
  • Participates in local, state, regional and national efforts related to issues identified by the CHCO community needs assessment.
