The following describes the job responsibilities, qualifications, and expectations for the Sleep Lab team member working night shifts, aligned with Banner Health standards.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position independently performs prescribed diagnostic sleep monitoring studies, which may include home sleep tests, to patients. This position analyzes the results to aid clinicians with diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and care of patients. This position acts as a resource to the department.

CORE FUNCTIONS
  • Obtains artifact-free sleep tracings that accurately reflect physiologic processes during sleep using the latest technology.
  • Analyzes all types of sleep records, identifies and documents sleep stages, and quantifies physiologic processes during data acquisition; summarizes information per departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensures accurate and readable recordings by troubleshooting minor problems and making adjustments during testing.
  • Collects and/or reviews pertinent medical, historical, and medication information to perform the prescribed study as outlined by departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assists with development of department policies, procedures, and processes; facilitates testing and maintains quality to achieve optimal patient results.
  • Assists leadership with operations, scheduling, orientation and/or training of new technical staff; may conduct or lead educational in-services and case study presentations.
  • Ensures quality assurance standards as outlined by departmental policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Independently performs prescribed diagnostic sleep monitoring, which may include home sleep tests, and acts as a resource to the department. Interacts with nursing management, medical staff, and other members of the care team; communicates with regulatory and health agencies as needed.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
    • Requires Registry by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists or proof of NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • The position generally requires 3 years of experience in sleep disorders testing, proficiency with sleep testing equipment and understanding of the sleep/wake cycle and related EEG theory; strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
