Description
Job title: Medical Records Clerk with Coding
Reports to: Health Information Manager
Position: Full-Time (40hr per week)

Cherry County Hospital & Clinic is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Medical Records Clerk to join our team. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate patient records, medical coding, and supporting quality patient care.
Position Responsibilities- Maintain, scan, and organize patient medical records
- Process medical record requests in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policies
- Assign ICD and CPT codes for diagnoses and procedures
- Assist with birth certificates, statistical reports, and medical staff files
- Review records for completeness and communicate with providers regarding documentation
- Support the billing department with coding-related claim issues
- Answer phones, respond to emails, and complete general clerical duties
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Strong computer, keyboarding, and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with healthcare professionals
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD/CPT coding, and HIPAA regulations preferred
- Ability to adapt to changing healthcare regulations and maintain confidentiality
- High School Diploma or GED
- Keyboarding and computer skills
- Completion of medical terminology course preferred or willing to complete a medical terminology course within one year of hire
- Prior experience with medical coding or willing to complete a medical coding course within one year of hire
- Ability to sit for extended periods, with occasional standing, bending, and lifting of medical records
- On-call hours required

Minimum Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Keyboarding and computer skills
- Completion of medical terminology course preferred or willing to complete a medical terminology course within one year of hire
