Job Summary:

Provides service to patient before, during or post-appointment with minimal guidance. Facilitates efficient workflow, supports appropriate use of technology, and engages in effective communication. Navigates complex patients to include scheduling with multiple services or coordination with outside facilities or providers.

Department Summary

The Vanderbilt Lung Institute brings together leading specialists in pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, and allergy care to provide coordinated, personalized treatment for patients with lung and breathing conditions. Through a collaborative and compassionate approach, the institute delivers advanced care for a wide range of pulmonary diseases, from common respiratory disorders to the most complex lung conditions. Areas of expertise include COPD, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, complex airway disorders, chest wall conditions, and connective tissue disease-related lung disease.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Proficiently performs all Patient Service Specialist job responsibilities.
  • Schedules appointments and procedures through clinical communication, work queues, and patient portal messages.
  • Manages registration and patient work queues.
  • Coordinates with patients and/or outside facilities to ensure all pre-appointment orders and consults have been received and ready to view prior to patient visit.
  • Communicates with patients through the patient portal using critical decision making to route appropriately as applicable.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

Customer Service (Intermediate): A continuing focus on the needs and requirements of customers, anticipating their needs, remaining sensitive to customers while performing services for them, responsive to customer needs.

Patient Scheduling (Novice):
The ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments, procedures and other office visits with various computer systems in the hospital or clinic.

Patient Documentation (Novice):
The ability to receive and record patient information.

Medical Terminology & Documentation (Novice):
The ability to comprehend medical terminology and.

Appointment & Procedural Scheduling (Fundamental Awareness):
The ability to coordinate and schedule diagnostic testing and procedures within various computer systems in the hospital.
