Position Summary

The Medical Advisor Lead is a field-based healthcare professional with clinical, scientific, and therapeutic area expertise who has experience as a medical advisor or similar role, supporting activities and direct interactions with customers in the field, but also serves as a lead and coach for a small team. The Medical Advisor Lead provides strategic direction and alignment of priorities by collaborating with USMA leadership, Global Medical Affairs, Marketing & Market Access stakeholders, to guide their team in daily responsibilities related to insights gathering, evidence generation, scientific exchange, and educational activities.

The Medical Advisor Lead serves as both a player and a coach; serving as a mentor, provide feedback, encourage development, assist with prioritization, and assess the performance of team members. Additionally, the Medical Advisor Lead will be responsible for providing medical and clinical guidance in the development, research, application, utility and impact of our in vitro diagnostic products.

Primary Duties
  • Serve as team lead, provide mentoring and direction, including co-travel in the field and support of team member development, including coaching for desired behaviors.
  • Collaborate with FMD team, MSL Leads and Medical Advisor Leads to ensure alignment and urgent response to changing organizational needs.
  • Work directly with the Medical Advisor Leadership to help define and track and report team metrics, monitor industry trends, research, and competitors to help refine the company's medical strategy aligned with organizational priorities, and communicate resource needs.
  • Keep up-to-date with scientific and medical knowledge in the areas of interest for the company including Infectious Diseases/ Microbiology and Acute Care) in order to provide relevant advice throughout the product lifecycle to appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Attend pertinent sessions of healthcare-associated meetings (government, NGO, medical, patient, etc.); meet with and gather insights from KOLs/experts and healthcare providers, and cultivate knowledge in relevant medical literature, developments, and guidelines to inform and benefit the organization as the field evolves.
  • Gather valuable insights from healthcare professionals regarding their experiences with our products, including their continuing medical education needs, and share this feedback with internal teams.
  • Support team members in high-quality evidence generation and clinical studies through tasks that may include but are not limited to: execution of scientific advisory boards, input on gap analyses that reflect local needs, protocol review and feedback for studies, feedback and support for global medical affairs scientists, and championing the outcomes of clinical studies.
  • Identify, engage, and develop long-term relationships with current and rising thought leaders (KOLs, clinicians, experts, others) in infectious diseases, laboratory medicine, critical care, and other relevant specialties (laboratory personnel, infection control, pharmacists, etc.). Lead by example for the team by building a strong network of pertinent and relevant experts in order to obtain advice, expert opinion, and collaborations, and to summarize findings and regularly communicate changes and updates to stakeholders.
  • Support team engagement with professional societies and advocacy groups to contribute to guidelines development, working groups, collaborative research, peer review of journal articles, science communications, and governmental engagement.
  • Provide leadership to focus priorities for medical education and communications, aligned with medical plans and organizational priorities.
  • Lead by example and support team members’ efforts to provide medical education and communications to external stakeholders, including HCPs, KOLs, Market Access, and Population Decision Makers on infectious diseases, diagnostic technologies, and the clinical applications of our products through peer-reviewed literature and guidelines in a fair and balanced manner.
