About the Role

As a Respiratory Therapist specializing in Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) at Quincy Medical Group, you will perform comprehensive diagnostic testing to evaluate lung function and provide physicians with accurate clinical data used to identify pulmonary disease, assess functional status, and evaluate response to treatment. This role combines technical expertise with direct patient care. You will guide patients through a variety of pulmonary function tests, operate and maintain specialized diagnostic equipment, evaluate testing quality, and communicate results to physicians.

Schedule & Work Environment

Primarily Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, and Friday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. May include travel to QMG's Pittsfield location approximately one day per week based on department needs.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform pulmonary function testing, including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, airway resistance, respiratory muscle testing, and other diagnostic testing as ordered.
  • Explain and demonstrate testing procedures to patients, provide clear instructions, and coach patients throughout testing to obtain accurate and reliable results.
  • Prepare, calibrate, operate, monitor, and troubleshoot specialized pulmonary diagnostic equipment.
  • Observe patients throughout testing, monitor their response, and recognize concerns requiring clinical intervention.
  • Review testing data for quality and accuracy, repeat testing when appropriate, and calculate and document results according to established protocols.
  • Provide physicians with accurate testing information to support diagnosis, assessment of disease severity, treatment planning, and evaluation of response to therapy.
  • Assist physicians and other clinical team members with more complex pulmonary testing and procedures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and testing documentation within applicable clinical systems.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain pulmonary testing equipment according to established infection prevention and equipment standards.
  • Monitor and order supplies necessary for pulmonary testing and department operations.
  • Maintain knowledge of new pulmonary function testing techniques, equipment, and professionally accepted standards.
  • Respond appropriately to patient emergencies and assist with emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related respiratory care program required, or equivalent combination of education and experience as outlined for the position.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential required.
  • Current Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Previous pulmonary function testing or respiratory diagnostic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of pulmonary physiology, respiratory disease, and pulmonary function testing principles preferred.
