Principal Function:
The Radiology Technologist/Sonography Support Specialist provides clinical, operational, and workflow support for imaging services within NEST Prenatal/Women's Health and Assess POINT programs. This role supports diagnostic imaging activities within the individuals verified modality-specific education, licensure, certifications, demonstrated competencies, approved privileges, and organizational scope of practice.

The incumbent promotes safe, efficient, patient-centered imaging operations through coordination of scheduling, imaging workflow management, quality assurance activities, radiation safety practices, equipment readiness, image and result routing, urgent findings escalation, and closed-loop processes. Imaging services may only be provided after formal restart/readiness authorization has been completed and documented by organizational leadership and credentialing authorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform approved imaging procedures within the individual's verified modality-specific education, credentials, competencies, and privileges.
  • Support NEST Prenatal/Women's Health Imaging workflows, including activities associated with obstetric, gynecologic, and other approved women's health imaging services.
  • Support Access POINT imaging workflows, including approved radiographic and imaging services.
  • Verify patient identity, procedure orders, required documentation, and imaging indications prior to service delivery.
  • Ensure appropriate patient preparation, positioning, imaging protocols, and documentation consistent with departmental consistent with departmental standards and physician orders.
  • Maintain professional communication with patients, providers, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Adhere to all radiation safety principles, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Utilize ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles in all applicable imaging activities.
  • Ensure proper use of shielding, dosimetry, exposure monitoring, and radiation protection practices.
  • Report radiation safety concerns, incidents, or equipment-related issues through established channels.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, operational checks, and quality assurance activities according to departmental protocols.
  • Monitor equipment performance and promptly report malfunction, service needs, or quality concerns.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, accreditation readiness activities, and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Assist in maintaining appropriate imaging supplies and operational readiness.
  • Ensure accurate order entry verification, image acquisition workflow support, and image transmission processes.
  • Facilitate timely routing of imaging studies, reports, and results to appropriate providers and care teams.
  • Maintain documentation related to imaging procedures and workflow activities in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Support image management and archival processes consistent with applicable policies and system requirements.
  • Follow established protocols for identification and escalation of urgent, critical, or unexpected imaging findings.
  • Ensure timely notification of appropriate providers and care teams according to organizational policy.
  • Document communication and escalation activities as required.
  • Support closed-loop follow-up processes to verify receipt, acknowledgment, and resolution of reportable findings.
