Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacy team in the daily operation of Neighbor Health's onsite 340B pharmacy. This role combines technical skill, workflow coordination, and inventory management to ensure accurate, compliant, and efficient prescription processing and patient care.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Compliance and 340B Program Support
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations
  • Assist with tracking, compliance, and auditing of 340B program products
  • Assist with organization and compliance of pharmacy records and audits
Inventory and Procurement
  • Supporting the management of 340B drug inventory, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage of medications
  • Maintain precise records for CIII-V controlled substances through completion of daily cycle counts
  • Handle drug recalls and the return process for expired, damaged, or recalled medications
  • Maintain accurate on-hand inventory counts
Technical and Administrative Duties
  • Enter and prepare outpatient prescriptions accurately, ensuring correct billing
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and properly labeling medications
  • Perform quality assurance checks and report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty
  • Handle patient and provider calls that don't require the pharmacist's direct attention
  • Process and resubmit manual claims for third-party prescription services
Register and Store Operations
  • Operate the register, including product returns, order voids, customer refunds, and providing change
  • Complete cash drawer audits and reconciliations at the start and end of each shift, reporting any discrepancies to the Pharmacy Manager promptly
  • Handle basic department pricing and price changes for OTC products
  • Help keep the pharmacy stocked, clean, and orderly, including requesting repairs as needed
Patient Care and Service
  • Greet customers and patients, and assist them with products and services
  • Support an outstanding patient experience through accurate dispensing and responsive service
  • Resolve patient questions and escape issues to the Pharmacy Manager or provider team as needed
Training and Development
  • Complete all required Neighbor Health Pharmacy training and continuing education
  • Stay current on pharmacy practices and developments

Requirements Required Skills or Abilities
  • Ability to interpret medical abbreviations for written and electronic prescriptions
  • Computer literacy in internet use and Windows environment, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with co-workers and community members.
  • Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
Required Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Active NC Board of Pharmacy Registration (and in good standing)
  • Minimum of 2 years of pharmacy experience
  • Ability to work Monday to Friday during pharmacy hours (typically 8:30 am to 5:00 pm)
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English fluently as needed to perform essential job functions, including patient communication, documentation, and safety-related instructions.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, or Licensure/Registration
  • PTCB of ExCPT certification
  • Immunization training and certification, with 1+ years of experience
Physical requirements of the Job

With or without reasonable accommodation, this position requires the ability to:

  • Stand for extended periods of time while assisting patients and handling medications
  • Lift up to 30 pounds safely and carry items across the pharmacy
  • Use manual dexterity to accurately measure, label, and dispense medications
  • Bend, stoop, reach, and crouch to access storage areas and complete pharmacy tasks
  • Read labels, enter data, and communicate clearly with patients and team members
  • Maintain focus for prolonged periods while performing repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently
Health and Safety Requirements

Up-to-date immunizations as required for the role, subject to medical or religious exemption requests in accordance with applicable law and NHC policy.
