PositionSummary and Purpose
Patient Access Educator is responsible for delivering individual and group on-the-job training to new and current patient access staff. The educator will round with patient access areas while observing and monitoring front-end functions and providing feedback to management and specialized instruction to staff. They help in the development of system enhancements and performs subsequent testing for enhancements to the registration and scheduling systems.
EssentialFunctions
- Facilitates staff development by promoting learning experiences and tailoring to the needs of the individual employees
- Defines the knowledge, skills & abilities required for patient access employees to perform given responsibilities as requested
- Suggests exercises and/or case studies to reinforce learning
- Observes staff working on Patient Access functions in clinical/hospital areas to answer questions, provide additional training, identify issues/concerns and facilitate ongoing integration of automated systems
- Audits accounts (i.e. MSP, insurance plans, complete registration, etc.)
- Participates in continuous process improvement teams and assist in the coordination and completion of short-term, long-term and special projects as appropriate
- Completes various Revenue Cycle reports to identify trends and opportunities for Patient Access education
- Assists with testing patient access components of courseware developed tools, products and system software upgrades
- Provides coaching regarding education opportunities
- Attends meetings and represent Patient Access as a subject matter expert
- Obtains and enters complete and accurate patient demographic, guarantor, and insurance information if needed for registration and/or pre-registration functions
- Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology and best practices
- Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
- Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent (required)
Experience:
- Excellent customer service skills (required)
- Two years of relevant patient access experience (required)
- Teaching and corporate training experience (preferred)
