The Interventional Radiology Technologist at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) supports complex image-guided procedures in a leading academic health center. This role performs high-quality fluoroscopic and digital imaging, prepares and operates interventional equipment, and assists physicians during vascular and non-vascular procedures. Responsibilities include patient assessment and positioning, contrast administration per protocol, radiation safety, and accurate documentation. The technologist collaborates within a multidisciplinary team, supports teaching and research activities, and contributes to MUSC’s mission of innovation, compassionate care, and clinical excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and optimize imaging for interventional radiology procedures (vascular and non-vascular)
  • Prepare, operate, and troubleshoot fluoroscopy and interventional imaging equipment
  • Assist interventional radiologists during procedures, including device and supply management
  • Assess, prepare, and position patients, ensuring safety, comfort, and informed procedure support
  • Apply radiation safety principles for patients, staff, and self
  • Administer contrast media per protocol and monitor patients for reactions
  • Maintain accurate procedure documentation and imaging records in the EMR/PACS
  • Ensure procedure rooms and equipment are cleaned, stocked, and ready for use
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other team members in a teaching hospital environment
  • Support quality improvement, education, and research initiatives within the department

Qualifications and Certifications
  • ARRT certification in Radiography
  • Advanced certification in Vascular-Interventional (VI) or Cardiac-Interventional (CI) preferred
  • State radiologic technologist license (as applicable)
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS certification preferred
