About the Role

Labcorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (MLS) to join our Microbiology team at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s – Woman’s Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
.

In this role, you will perform routine and complex laboratory testing, evaluate specimens, operate and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation, maintain quality-control standards, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results.

You will work in a high-volume, production-based clinical laboratory environment where technical expertise, attention to detail, sound judgment, teamwork, and a commitment to quality are essential.

Work Schedule

1st Shift: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM

Days: Monday–Friday
Additional Schedule Requirements: Rotating weekends and holidays

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Laboratory Technologist, you will:

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical laboratory procedures in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Make appropriate technical decisions related to testing procedures and problem-solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents and controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality-control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing-bench supplies as needed.
  • Assist with specimen processing when required.
  • Maintain a safe laboratory environment and consistently use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Follow established laboratory procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative laboratory team.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet the applicable education and experience requirements, including:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Science, Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field.
  • One year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are preferred:

  • One year or more of microbiology experience working as an MLS.
  • ASCP or AMT certification.

Successful candidates should also demonstrate:

  • Education and science coursework that meet applicable CLIA requirements
    . In lieu of the education requirements listed above, non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits may be considered when they meet CLIA standards.
  • The ability to work independently and effectively within a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Proficiency with computers and laboratory technology.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • The ability to pass a standardized color-blindness test
    .
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.
