The Shared Resources Specialist I/II – Preclinical Imaging is responsible for supporting the preclinical imaging needs of researchers at Fred Hutch. The Specialist will assist researchers in the use of multiple forms of imaging equipment (including Ultrasound, MRI, Optical imaging equipment), provide imaging advisory and training services on all modalities, perform specialized animal procedures for imaging, and extend support to small animal clinical services when needed.

This is a 6 month temporary role that will be onsite at our South Lake Union location.

Responsibilities
  • Research Support:
    • Work under the direction of the Preclinical Imaging leadership or higher‑level personnel.
    • Use discretion and judgment in performance of duties.
    • Perform imaging studies across all available modalities including acquisition of images, and compilation and basic analysis of data for investigators.
    • Expert in related procedures including (but not limited to) animal preparation, anesthesia and monitoring, and capable of performing routine and complex injection and sample collection methods.
    • Coordinate transportation of animals across facilities for imaging related research.
  • Research development:
    • Establish and maintain positive, collaborative working relationships with faculty and external users to identify imaging needs
    • Develop appropriate protocols or creative solutions and deliver high quality data.
    • Identify opportunities for improvement of laboratory workflow while adhering to specified protocols and procedures.
  • Equipment Oversight:
    • Coordinate and complete maintenance on all imaging equipment and software.
    • Review and identify new equipment needs.
    • Lead inventory and supply management.
  • Training and

    Education:

    • Develop SOPs, training materials, and guidelines for investigator use of imaging equipment.
    • Present on new or expanded technologies within Preclinical Imaging core
    • Train users on the proper operation of instrumentation such as bioluminescent and florescence imagers, ultrasound, micro CT and assist with experimental setup.
    • Supervise work‑study students and interns.
  • Administrative tasks:
    • Accurately document maintenance events and associated relevant communications.
