Description

Under the general direction of the Program Director at the UCLA Area Service Center (ASC), California Newborn Screening Program (NBS), the Newborn Screening Program Specialist performs a range of health reporting, administrative, programmatic, data management, and case follow‑up functions in support of statewide newborn screening activities. Responsibilities include supporting result reporting and case management for birthing providers, facilities, pediatricians, and families;

maintaining accurate program data; and preparing routine and ad hoc reports using SIS, internal databases, and BI/PEP reports. Reports may include diagnosed cases, facility performance, workload activity, referrals, verifications, and other program measures. The position also develops facility‑specific reports, educational materials, newsletters, charts, and presentations using Microsoft applications, and other applicable data and reporting tools. The position provides follow‑up for positive, incomplete, inadequate, early, missed, and not‑obtained newborn screening specimens, including specimens for infants born outside of a hospital setting.

Additional duties include participating in ASC assigned facility site visits, educational events/meetings, annual quality improvement and education planning/implementation, progress reporting and state improvement projects. The Program Specialist monitors newborn screening performance practices among assigned facilities and/or birthing providers, serves as a liaison to our ASC regional facilities/birthing providers, provides technical consultation when fully emerged into the program, communicates program updates and feedback to ASC facilities, leadership, and CDPH representatives as appropriate.

The Program Specialist will also participate in assigned office rotation of weekend on‑call/holiday coverage on a monthly basis once reporting metrics are met.

Salary Range: $33.81 – 53.93 Hourly
