The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future.

For candidates living in Boston, MA, Denver, CO, New York, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Sacramento, CA, San Diego, CA, and Washington, DC, the pay range is $57,700 - $67,100.

Position Summary

This position requires that the employee reside within the DC, Maryland or Northern Virginia area.

This is aterm-limited position that is funded until June 30, 2027.

The Associate Specialist, Environmental Health, provides programmatic support for APHL’s US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded work tostrengthenpublic healthlaboratoryefforts around chemical threat preparedness, overdose biosurveillance, human biomonitoring, wastewater surveillance for chemicals, and microplastics.

The Associate Specialist, Environmental Health, provides administrative assistance for APHL environmental health program staff, the APHL Environmental Health Committee and related work groups.

The Associate Specialist, Environmental Health, will work with the Environmental Health Senior Program Manage rand other team members to implement project activities, facilitate member training, and provide administrative assistance to the Director of Environmental Health.

The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) works to strengthen laboratory systems serving the public’s health in the U.S. and globally. APHL’s member laboratories protect the public’s health by monitoring and detecting infectious and foodborne diseases, environmental contaminants, terrorist agents, genetic disorders in newborns and other diverse health threats.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides administrative support, coordination and project management to the Senior Program Manager of Environmental Health to implement environmental health program activities, particularly activities of the National Biomonitoring Network, chemical threat preparedness, overdose biosurveillance, microplastics, and wastewater surveillance of chemicals.
  • Provides administrative support to environmental health program staff to implement APHL work plans for strengthening laboratory programs related to environmental health.
  • Organizes and coordinates member activities, travel and trainings related to environmental health program
  • Tasks to successfully complete these duties and responsibilities include:
    • Organizes and coordinates membertrainings and associated member travel.
    • Maintains communications with APHL members, CDC and other partners by email, telephone,and in-person meetings.
    • Monitors vendor contracts and reviews and submits invoices prepared by vendors.
    • Tracks financial activities andwritescorresponding reports for assigned projects.
    • Assists in the creation and dissemination of invitation letters, certificates, agendas, and awards for trainings, meetings and events.
    • Communicates program activities and cooperative agreement reporting requirements withCDC project officers via written reports and phone calls.
    • Takes detailed meeting notes and summarizes action items in a timely manner.
    • Procures supplies and contributes to the preparation and distribution of collateral materials for meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
