Baystate Health is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our Endocrinology team in Springfield, Massachusetts. Our practice offices are part of a multi-specialty medical group with nearly 1,000 physicians and advanced practitioners serving patients across more than 60 locations in Western Massachusetts.
The Medical Assistant role offers the opportunity to work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary care team to ensure smooth patient transitions, maintain accurate medical records and support providers during examinations, testing and procedures.
Medical Assistant
Responsibilities Include:
Patient Intake & History: Room patients for intake, gather vital signs, review histories, document medications, and complete required site-specific screening forms in the Electronic Health Record.
Clinical & Provider Support: Prepare treatment rooms, chaperone patients, and assist providers during examinations, testing, and in-office procedures.
Orders & Documentation: Implement provider orders and standing protocols, process prescription refills, obtain prior authorizations, and accurately document all data within established time frames.
Procedures: Perform independent procedures as approved by the provider, including EKGs, vision/hearing screenings, and point-of-care testing. Perform phlebotomy and administer immunizations in strict accordance with organization policy.
Patient Discharge & Coordination: Review discharge instructions with patients, provide educational resources, process referrals, and schedule follow-up appointments.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High School diploma or GED required
- CPR-Basic Life Support of Healthcare Provider required from the American Heart Association required
This position is part of a career ladder, and the appropriate level will be determined by the organization.
- MAI – Graduate of an accredited MA program preferred OR demonstrated competencies of MA I (evaluated by hiring manager) with minimum 1 year experience in a medical office.
- MAII– Graduate of an accredited MA program OR demonstrated competencies of MA II (evaluated by hiring manager for level hiring for) with minimum 3 years’ current relevant medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting.
- MAIII– Graduate of an accredited MA program with a minimum of 5years’ current relevant medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting preferred OR demonstrated competencies of MA III (evaluated by hiring manager) with a minimum of 5 years’ current relevant medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting OR minimum of two years as an MA II at a Baystate Health with demonstrated competencies of MA III.
- MAIV– (Internal career ladder) Minimum of two years as an MA III at Baystate Health with demonstrated competencies for promotion to MA IV. Graduate of an accredited MA program and registered/certified by a third-party credential body.
Credentialing must be awarded by a third-party credentialing body which can be obtained through:
1. Registered through Medical Assistant (ARMA) – (Minimum Requirement); 2. Registered through American Medical Technologist (AMT) association; or 3. Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcare…
