Location: Northern

Position Summary: This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Nutritional Services in the clinical organization and administration of the department to provide nutritious, well-prepared food for patients and staff. The Dietician will also develop diets as appropriate for patients according to their medical needs.

Job Duties &

Essential Functions:

  • Clinical Nutrition: Accurately screens and assesses patients deemed to be at nutritional risk. Counsels’ patients, families, and staff about requirements; handles complaints and resolves problems. Develops patient care plans on behalf of the dietary department; attends care‑planning conferences and interdisciplinary meetings.

  • Managerial

    Skills:

    Coordinates all dietary activities in the facility, acting through the food service supervisors and dietary technicians.
  • Improving Organizational Performance: Supervises the development of specialized diets using appropriate dietary modifications where necessary; supervises menu planning for special functions.
  • Surveys food preparation and distribution for safe practices ensuring variety, adequate seasoning, visual appeal, proper temperature, and appropriate portion sizes.
  • Cooperates with the purchasing department to provide high-quality food at the most economical price.
  • Works with the food committee to receive constructive ideas and suggestions and to provide education to patients and their families.
  • Plans and presents monthly in‑service programs for dietary staff; conducts training sessions for other departments.
  • Develops and maintains clinical and patient programs that comply with Joint Commission & NYDOH standards.
  • Performs additional duties as directed.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Rotates within the department and other departments and by shift as required.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Participates in in‑service programs.
  • Participates in annual recertification training, compliance training, HIPPA training.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Experience &

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of Dietetics and Nutrition.
  • Licensed by New York State as Registered Dietitian.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.



Preferred Experience &

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in the field of Dietetics and Nutrition.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, office staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing while communicating with patients may be required.
  • Must be able to lift to thirty (30) pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel and reach above shoulders.
  • Ability to use step ladder.
  • Sufficient mobility and dexterity of both arms to safely operate equipment, utensils and retrieve stock.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments.
