PRN

Position Summary

The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) is responsible for performing and monitoring diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies in accordance with established standards of care. The RPSGT provides high-quality patient care throughout the sleep study process, ensures accurate data collection and documentation, and maintains a safe, comfortable environment for patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for overnight and daytime sleep studies, explaining procedures and answering questions.
  • Perform and monitor diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies, including PSG, CPAP/BiPAP titration, MSLT, MWT, and other sleep-related testing as ordered.
  • Apply and verify appropriate sensors and electrodes according to established protocols.
  • Monitor patients and recording equipment throughout the study and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.
  • Initiate and adjust PAP therapy and other interventions according to physician orders and established protocols.
  • Recognize and document sleep-related events, cardiac rhythms, respiratory events, movements, and other physiological changes.
  • Perform appropriate technical interventions to obtain high-quality recordings and troubleshoot equipment when necessary.
  • Score sleep studies according to current professional standards and facility protocols, when applicable.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient documentation and study records.
  • Provide patient education regarding sleep studies, PAP therapy, and sleep-related procedures.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain equipment and the sleep laboratory according to infection‑control policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.

    Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, other technologists, and members of the healthcare team.
  • Maintain current knowledge of sleep medicine technology, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current RPSGT credential through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), or eligibility as determined by facility requirements.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Previous experience in a sleep laboratory preferred.
  • Knowledge of polysomnographic equipment, sleep‑disorder testing, scoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong patient‑care, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make appropriate clinical and technical decisions within established protocols.
Physical/Work Requirements
  • Ability to work overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist patients as needed.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive throughout overnight monitoring.
  • Ability to work in a patient‑care environment while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality.
