Work schedule will be Full-time on the Day Shift, Day Shift, M-F, every 4th weekend, 05:00 to 13:30.
SummaryThis job position is responsible for performing laboratory tests on body fluids utilizing standard laboratory procedures and instruments to aid in the diagnosis, monitoring, and prevention of disease.
Other informationEffective January 1, 2020, new hires into this position must obtain the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) certification within 18 months of hire. Employees hired prior to this date are grandfathered and remain compliant.
Education- Bachelors or Master’s degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory technology OR
- Bachelor’s degree in a chemical or biological science. 1-2 years of laboratory experience preferred
- Registry with a national board of registry as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent) or Scientist in Blood Banking or registry eligible. Certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
- * Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist or any of the following equivalent qualifications below:
- - Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist - AMT
- - Scientist in Blood Banking
- * Bachelors of Science or Arts in Biological Sciences
The Blood Bank at Children’s of Alabama is a vital component of our comprehensive pediatric healthcare system, providing expert transfusion support to a wide range of patient populations. We serve children with sickle cell disease, hematology/oncology and bone marrow transplant patients, as well as critically ill infants and children in the PICU, NICU, and Cardiovascular ICU and OR. Our team specializes in ensuring the safe, timely, and precise provision of blood products through advanced serologic testing, compatibility testing, and hemolytic antibody identification.
Committed to excellence and patient-centered care, the department collaborates closely with clinical teams to meet the unique transfusion needs of our pediatric patients.
