JOB DESCRIPTION Medical Assistant FLSA Status:

Job Summary:Serves as support personnel following regulations for the practice of Nursing Assistants including assisting with patient admissions, patient procedures, care and maintenance of procedural instrumentation, discharging patients, chart preparation, medical records, assisting providers and other personnel as needed, and other collateral duties.
Primary Responsibilities:Assist recovery and/or preop nurses as scheduled during surgeryWorks with supply coordinator to receive and unload supply shipmentsAssist front desk coordinator as needed in prepping surgery chartsAssist patients from OR to recoveryAssist with transporting patients from recovery to their vehicle as neededScans and batches surgery forms by end of the dayFax co-managed patients’ chartsAssist in checking vitals in preoperative and post-operative unitsRe-stock supplies as needed (e.g. linens, gauze)Assist with OR turnoverAssist with follow-up calls for surgical patientsAssist with terminal cleaning of surgery unitsAssist with YAG, SLT, YAG PI lasersMaintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and practice guidelinesMaintain a positive working relationship with staffOther duties as assignedEssential
Skills and Abilities:Follows medical record policies and procedures.Adheres to abuse reporting responsibilities.Participates in QAPI committee activities.Identifies and reports critical patient care needs to appropriate personnel.Collaborates with team members to coordinate patient care.Applies aseptic techniques.Actively listens and shows respect.Utilizes translation services when necessary.Communicates effectively with diverse patients, families, and colleagues.Embraces new ideas and adapts to change.Engages in the quality improvement process.Supports performance improvement initiatives.Reports suspected abuse per protocol.Education and Experience:1. High School diploma or GED.
2 .Completion of the Nursing Assistant Certification Program is a plus.
3. Current BLS.
Physical Abilities:
Ability to stand/ sit for prolonged periods while working.Ability to travel to various locationsAbility to lift up to 20 pounds for event setup and other administrative tasks.Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and using a computer mouse.Work Environment:
The position is based in an office and clinical setting, with some travel required for research-related activities.
