Overview

River View Health operates a 25 bed Critical Access Hospital, River View Recovery Center; a chemical dependency outpatient treatment program, River View Home Care and five primary care and specialty clinics in the hospitals service area.

Hospital Coder - RHIT, CPC (full-time)

Position Status: Non-Exempt – Full-Time (1.0 fte); subject to over-time

Location:Hybrid eligible, based on experience and training/orientation

Schedule:Monday – Friday

Pay Range: $25.69 - $33.24 /per hour (DOE - based on experience/certification status) - benefitted

The
Hospital
Coder
is responsible for accurately assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures performed during a patient's hospital stay, utilizing classification systems such as ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT. As a Hospital Coder, you play a vital role in ensuring that every medical service a patient receives during their hospital stay is accurately documented and translated into universal healthcare codes. This role plays a critical part in the healthcare revenue cycle, ensuring proper reimbursement, accurate data for research and public health reporting, and compliance with all coding regulations and guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Abstracts pertinent information from patient records. Assigns ICD-9/10 CM or HCPCS codes, for billing (both hospital and clinics) as appropriate.
• Queries physicians when code assignments are not straightforward or documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
• Assist with bill problem resolution, researches and communicates guidelines for billable services.
• Assist in the Riverview Health Charge master with applicable coding guidelines and Riverview policies and procedure.
• Assist in working with clinical directors and helping to implement CDM changes.
• Assist with hospital and clinic departmental charge masters.
• Remains current with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. Brings identified concerns to Lead Coder or Director of HIM for resolution.
• Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association and American Medical Association and adheres to official coding guidelines.
