As the Long Term Care Ombudsman Program Advocate
, you will play a pivotal role in individuals' lives, making a significant impact through:

  • Responds to resident issues and concerns by phone, email and in-person visit to residents at the facilities in which they reside.
  • Advocates for the upholding of resident rights including addressing resident dissatisfaction or complaints, using a person centered and directed manner, and the avoidance of elder abuse, mistreatment and neglect.
  • Conducts in-person routine and complaint related visits to long-term care facilities and initiates ombudsman or multi resident complaint to address systemic issues as needed.
  • Completes New York State mandated 36-hour certification training and post certification attends periodic in service meetings to acquire minimum hours of annual continuing education.
  • Meets with facility administrators and other staff to resolve resident concerns and complaints, as necessary within assigned service area.
  • Assures that any files maintained by the Ombudsman Program are disclosed only at the discretion of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman, and that the identity of any complainant or resident of a long-term care facility is not disclosed unless as specified by law.
  • Participates in an ongoing program of education and public awareness to address systematic problems and elder abuse as well as the program’s need to recruit Ombudsman volunteers.
  • Presents the program’s services in public forums, such as speaking engagements, agency fairs, as assigned by Program Director.

Long Term Care Ombudsman Program Advocate Salary: $ 25.00

Long Term Care Ombudsman Program Advocate Schedule:
Mon-Fri 8:30AM - 4:00PM (35 hours/week)

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree in Human Services or a related field
  • 3 - 5 years of experience working with a diverse populationi>
  • Previous experience with Long-term care facility visits
