Description

Strategic Leadership and Program Development:

  • Establish and lead a residency program aligned with ACGME accreditation requirements and milestones, emphasizing excellence in clinical training, education, and community engagement.
  • Develop a long‑term vision for the residency program that aligns with the organization’s strategic goals and enhances its reputation as a leading care provider.
  • Recruit and build a team of dedicated core faculty, ensuring a strong foundation for resident training and mentorship.
  • Serve as a visible leader and advocate for graduate medical education within the organization and the broader community.
  • Practice financial stewardship in the development and management of the Residency Program budget to ensure the availability of adequate ACGME‑required resources to facilitate resident education and scholarly activity.

Education, Training, and Mentorship:

  • Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum that integrates ACGME competencies with innovative approaches to primary care, behavioral health integration, population health, and team‑based care.
  • Promote a culture of excellence in teaching, learning, and mentorship, fostering the professional growth of both residents and faculty.
  • Champion evidence‑based medicine, quality improvement, and scholarly activity, equipping residents with the tools to become future leaders in family medicine.
  • Facilitate resident engagement in local public health initiatives, research projects, and community outreach to address social determinants of health.
  • Recruit, retain, and promote a high‑caliber resident body, reflective of the community they serve, who exhibit a commitment to excellence in whole‑person patient care, demonstrate competency in scholarly activity, display high ethics, professionalism, and actively participate in their own medical education and that of others.
  • Cultivate a psychologically safe working and learning environment for the residents that allows them to confidentially raise concerns and provide feedback without fear of intimidation or retaliation.

Accreditation and Compliance:

  • Lead the accreditation process, ensuring compliance with all ACGME, AAFP, and federal standards for residency programs.
  • Conduct regular program evaluations, including feedback from residents, faculty, and other stakeholders, to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Prepare for and oversee ACGME site visits, self‑studies, and annual reporting requirements.

Community and Interdisciplinary

Collaboration:

  • Develop partnerships with local hospitals, health systems, educational institutions, and community organizations to provide residents with diverse clinical experiences and improve community health.
  • Collaborate with Sunset Health (SH) departments, including behavioral health, adult/pediatrics, gynecology, and social services, to create a multidisciplinary training environment.
  • Serve as a key liaison with external stakeholders to strengthen the residency program’s integration within the broader healthcare system.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):

  • Lead efforts to recruit a diverse cohort of residents who reflect the cultural and linguistic diversity of the community.
  • Implement cultural competency training and support resident engagement in addressing health disparities.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment where residents and faculty feel valued and empowered to contribute to the program’s mission.
