Job Summary

The Nursing Department Lab Coordinator is responsible for the management and oversight of the Simulation Laboratory and Clinical Operations. This includes providing technical, operational, logistical, and administrative support for simulation laboratories, skills laboratories, clinical education activities, and interdisciplinary learning experiences.

The Coordinator works under the direction of the designated nursing supervisor and faculty and does not independently provide nursing instruction, evaluate clinical competency, make clinical judgments, or supervise nursing practice. This is a non-nursing position and does not require professional nursing licensure.

Qualifications

- Education Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in simulation technology, healthcare technology, information technology, educational technology, audiovisual technology, health sciences, emergency services, biomedical technology, business/operations, or a related field.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare simulation, educational technology, health sciences, biomedical technology, operations management, education, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience may be considered.
  • A nursing degree is not required but preferred
    .
Qualifications
- Experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience in simulation operations, laboratory operations, healthcare education support, educational technology, audiovisual technology, clinical education administration, healthcare operations, or a related environment preferred.
  • Experience operating human patient simulators, task trainers, audiovisual systems, or simulation software strongly preferred.
  • Experience coordinating schedules, purchasing, inventory, equipment, or complex operational activities preferred.
  • Experience working in higher education, healthcare education, simulation centers, hospitals, allied health programs, emergency medical services, or interdisciplinary educational environments preferred.
  • Experience communicating with vendors and coordinating equipment maintenance preferred.
Preferred, but not required:
  • CHS (Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist) or willingness to pursue certification.
  • Manufacturer-specific simulator or simulation technology training is preferred.

Registered Nurse licensure is not required for this position.

  • Knowledge of simulation laboratory operations and equipment.
  • Strong organizational, scheduling, and project-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple laboratories, activities, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Ability to follow detailed faculty instructions for simulation setup and execution.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Competence with computers, audiovisual systems, simulation software, scheduling software, databases, and electronic documentation systems.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory, purchasing, maintenance, and scheduling records.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with students, faculty, administrators, vendors, healthcare organizations, and community partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary environments.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of general workplace, laboratory, infection-prevention, and equipment safety practices.
  • Ability to recognize operational or safety concerns and appropriately elevate them to the nursing supervisor.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and institutional information.
  • Ability to work independently within clearly defined responsibilities while recognizing matters that require nursing faculty or supervisory review.
  • Ability to adapt to new simulation technologies and emerging instructional platforms.
