Pharmacy Technician
Location: Northern
The Pharmacy Technician is accountable to the Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy and assists the Pharmacist in carrying out the activities of the Pharmacy Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepares prescriptions for dispensing by the Pharmacist and fills stock replacements.
- Makes requisitions for drugs and supplies with professional guidance from the Pharmacist and/or Director of Pharmacy.
- Assists in controlling stock, except controlled substances; pre-packages drugs; prepares stock solutions and written formulas; receives, signs for, and stores stock items; and ensures all items are checked by the Pharmacist and/or Director of Pharmacy.
- Helps maintain an orderly and clean environment within the department, including pharmacy stock, supplies, and equipment.
- Monitors inventory and completes requisitions as needed.
- Maintains files for prescriptions, purchase orders, stock orders, and requisitions.
- Receives, inspects, and verifies all credit returns.
- Removes or recommends removal of unneeded, deteriorated, or outdated drugs from stock and prepares items for return or disposal.
- Assists with monthly physical inventory.
- Establishes and maintains patient accounts.
- Posts charges, payments, and adjustments.
- Reconciles daily receipts to daily reports.
- Files and labels prescription refills written by physicians.
- Assists the Pharmacist with other housekeeping duties.
- Performs other related duties as instructed by the Pharmacist and Director of Pharmacy.
Education/
Experience:
Successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program with a minimum of one year of related work experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to perform light lifting and repetitious physical activity. Must be computer literate and possess the ability to communicate clearly. Requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain professional working relationships with staff and the public. Must possess knowledge and understanding of cash internal controls and reconciliation of daily receipts.
