Clinical Renal Associates is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to support both the administrative and clinical functions of our growing nephrology practice. The ideal candidate is patient-focused, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional care while supporting providers and ensuring an efficient office workflow.
In this role, you will perform a wide range of responsibilities including patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, patient intake, clinical support, diagnostic testing, and coordination of care. You will work closely with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, patients, pharmacies, and other healthcare providers to ensure a seamless patient experience.
As an added benefit, once hired, you will receive a $500 retention bonus upon completing six months of service and an additional $500 bonus after 12 months, for a total bonus opportunity of $1,000.Key Responsibilities Front Office & Patient Access
- Greet patients and perform check-in/check-out procedures accurately and efficiently.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance payments, and outstanding patient balances.
- Obtain insurance card and payment guarantor information and verify insurance eligibility.
- Schedule appointments, procedures, and follow-up visits.
- Print orders and patient educational materials.
- Answer incoming calls promptly and professionally while demonstrating phone etiquette consistent with professional standards.
- Maintain assigned clinical inboxes within the athena
Clinicals electronic medical record system. - Manage appointment reminders, patient waitlists, and appointment rescheduling through the athena
Clinicals automated scheduling system.
- Room patients and complete patient intake, including:
- Vital signs
- Allergy verification
- Medication reconciliation
- Documentation of recent flu and pneumonia vaccinations
- Assess and document patient symptoms, reactions, and physical condition in athena
Clinicals. - Assist physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners with examinations and procedures.
- Perform diagnostic testing.
- Collect specimens and follow all CLIA regulations.
- Prepare patient charts and ensure laboratory information is available for office visits.
- Contact patients regarding test results or care instructions as directed by the physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner.
- Make patient reminder calls regarding required laboratory work two (2) weeks prior to appointments.
- Triage patient phone calls and portal messages, determine appropriate response priority, consult with providers as needed, and document appropriately.
- Facilitate referrals to specialty care, imaging, and laboratory services as ordered.
- Coordinate required laboratory and imaging studies to ensure patients are appropriately prepared.
- Scan, attach, review, and process patient medical records and administrative documents within athena
Clinicals. - Review and process incoming faxes and laboratory results that are not received electronically.
- Process prescription refills and medication prior authorizations.
- Organize medication sample inventory and properly discard expired medications.
- May assist with preparing payment batches and maintaining accurate office cash transactions.
- Exercise sound judgment in challenging and stressful situations.
- May occasionally serve as a trainer for medical support staff or students.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or an equivalent certification organization.
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant Medical Assistant experience in a physician office setting.
- Broad understanding of clinical operations and physician office practices.
- Experience using athena
Clinicals Electronic Health Record (EHR). - Experience with secure clinical communication and billing applications, such as PMD Soft.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy regulations, with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality of medical, financial, and other sensitive information.
- Ability to perform basic patient data entry in athena
Clinicals and utilize Microsoft Office applications. - Basic knowledge of medical examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatment room processes.
