Surgical First Assistant RN

The Surgical First Assistant RN is a highly skilled operating room professional responsible for supporting surgeons during surgical procedures. This role includes performing critical tasks such as suturing, providing exposure, and managing bleeding, ensuring efficient and safe surgical operations.

Responsibilities:

• Assist surgeons in various surgical procedures under their supervision.
• Perform suturing and manage hemostasis during surgeries.
• Ensure the operating room is clean and organized before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Collaborate effectively with anesthesiologists and other surgical team members.
• Be available for call shifts 2-3 days per week, with flexibility for possible future weekend call.
• Be prepared to work during holidays if required.

Qualifications:

• Must hold and maintain a valid nursing license in Kentucky.
• A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Surgical First Assistant RN is required.
• Credentialing through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) is mandatory.
• Certification as a Surgical Assistant through the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure is required.
• Previous travel experience is preferred.

Operating room assistants typically complete accredited training programs which may include certificates, diplomas, or associate degrees, accompanied by voluntary certification to enhance employment opportunities.
